Kristine Best 1Kristine Best

When I was a young kid at school, I learned guitar and recorder... basic stuff ... and my dad gave me a harmonica and taught me to play. Dad also sang, mum played the organ and they often had one of their records playing. As a teenager, I learned classical and Flamenco guitar for a few years (I still have that Maton classical guitar!), and while I didn't play music again until much later in my life, I continued to enjoy music by listening to records at home, going to concerts and other live music venues and dancing.
I had always intended to pick up my guitar and play again and I also had an underlying desire to be a performer and play percussion ... congas in particular. I bought a djembe in 2003, took piano lessons in 2007 for a year, bought an acoustic guitar in 2010, started writing songs, purchased my congas in 2011, and then I took singing lessons for a few months from August 2014. Until this point in my life, I  didn't think I could sing ... then after instruction and encouragement, I realised I could.
Out of the blue, I decided I wanted to play ukulele. In mid December 2014, I commenced ukulele lessons with with Liz Kitney at the Central Coast Ukulele Club (CCUC). Six months later, I started djembe lessons with Rob Kitney. The CCUC provided a good learning environment and I also gained some experience performing at community events, festivals and at open mikes. My passion for music was ignited and I wrote more songs ... but then it wasn't passion any more ... it was more than that ... it was more like a God-given,  soul driven force and music was something I had to do.
In December 2016, I joined the Australian Songwriters' Association and attend the Central Coast monthly open mics. I also joined APRA. I started busking to gain solo performance experience and to build my confidence. From March 2017, my direction changed somewhat. I recorded and produced a CD of 8 of my songs and since then I have been going to 3 or 4 open mikes every week to gain experience and promote my songs. Over the last 5 months, I've grown as a performer and I'm finding the musician that's in me ... and letting her "fly". I'm keen to explore the possibilities of where music might take me ... and ... I'd love to pass my enjoyment of music on to others through my song writing and performing.

The 345s 2The 345's

The 345's are a cover band founded on their love of soul, funk, R&B and basically anything with a groove that gets their toes tapping.

Sharing a love of soul and R&B music from the 50's, 60's & 70’s performed by the great artists on the Motown, Chess, Stax, Atlantic record labels, the 345's formed in 2016 wanting to share their love for these great songs with audiences around Newcastle and the Hunter region.

The 345's are 4 piece soul outfit featuring Liv (vocals), Caleb (keys and trumpet), Craig (bass) and Ellie Plummer (drums).

The diverse inspiration they individually draw from the soul, funk and R&B genres means their set list not only features all time classics from the likes of Etta James, Marvin Gaye, The Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder and many more, but also features more modern R&B classics from Childish Gambino, Meg Mac, Aloe Blacc to name just a few.

The soulful groove of the 345's is guaranteed to get everyone up and dancing from the first note to the last chord and will be a pleasant reminder of just how great the tracks from these amazing genres of music are.

An act not to be missed.

Our Brackets South event takes place on top beautiful Kincumba Mountain. The community built venue is a mud brick and natural timber building which sits in a bushland reserve, with panoramic views of Brisbane water and magnificent sunsets over the hills beyond.

This venue is the birthplace of Brackets and Jam on the Central Coast and the community considers it as it's spiritual home. The Mountain itself holds a strong significance for our Aboriginal community, and has been a long standing meeting place for Central Coast people. The rock outcrop situated in front of the kiosk forms a natural pool which is said to have once been a sacred birthing place for women. The Mountain now gives birth to many new beginnings as the hub of creative community arts in the southern Central Coast region.
